INSPIRE We make mentoring and career development training accessible to college students with disabilities. Many of the students we serve are also first-generation, the first in their family to go to college. Department of Labor statistics are grim; only 20% of people with disabilities participate in the workforce. We inspire under-represented students to pursue new skills and self-advocacy to maximize their potential. We are one of the first non-profits in New York City to provide mentoring and career readiness programs to college students with disabilities. Staying in college, graduating, and improving the prospect of employment are the top goals of our first of its kind Mentoring 4 Impact program.
INVOLVE Our volunteer-led non-profit is a community of mentors, instructors, and industry professionals who are committed to diversity. Community building includes our Advisory Council of corporate advisers and thought leaders to broaden mentoring and internship opportunities for college students with disabilities. Inclusive internships enable students with disabilities to confidently transition into professional life. Our Young Professionals Council offers leadership opportunities to graduates of our Mentoring 4 Impact certificate program.
IMPACT We have proudly made an impact for undergraduate students at five colleges since 2014. Over 85% of the 190 students we’ve served are students of color. We offer measurable training solutions to budget challenged college accessibility and career services departments in New York City. Here’s what City University of New York college students are saying about Mentoring 4 Impact:
“I enjoyed having a program where you learn in a classroom environment which helps build confidence and also getting that one-on-one guidance from the mentor to help with specific problem areas of your professional life.”
“What I liked most about the program is that each session is helpful for the professional world. I really needed help to work on my elevator pitch and during this program, I have gotten significantly better at it.”
“Everyone involved was genuinely interested in seeing the students improve and wanted the best outcome for all students.”
